Learning to love elopements
There’s nothing I can say about 2020 that’s particularly new. It’s all been said before. My bookings disappeared, the year stretched out ahead of me eerie and quiet.

Having spent the 10 years before that declaring my love for weddings full of people, hugs and dancing I found it hard to adapt to restrictions, kicking myself for never turning my attention to elopements and favouring the type of celebrations that were completely banned. Then, in the Autumn one of my couples chose to elope to a venue up in Scotland that usually includes a photographer in their package. They asked if they could bring me with them and I ended up staying at Crear for a few days, photographing weddings on their idyllic beach. Before each one, I only had the couple's names. The first couple were Len and Suzi, pictured here exchanging personal vows by the calm Scottish water on a surprisingly mild October day. They were so full of emotion that I fell in love with micro-weddings immediately, which helped to see me through the tough weeks and months that followed as we waited for regular weddings to resume. Even since restrictions have been lifted I've kept taking bookings for short coverage elopements. I'm grateful to have been able to try something that I hadn't thought would suit the way that I work - and even happier to have found that I love it.
